Seeing a black screen on your computer can be very scary if you are a novice computer user. People often simply expect their computer to start up every time they press the power on button. But this does not always happen.

This computer error can because by many different errors and sometimes it can be an extremely easy problem to fix, when other times it is not.

Hopefully your computer black screen error is easy to fix by following a feud tips that I’m going to mentioned below.

Multiple monitors plug-in

Sometimes people connect a TV or even another monitor to their computer. Hopefully you can remember doing this and realize that this is the problem. If you are getting a blank screen on your computer after starting Windows and after having more than one monitor plugged in, the best option is to restart in safe mode.

Before you do this you should disconnect all that extra monitors or TVs. This way your computer will start up seeing only one monitor and it will know which one to display on.

If this does not work, you will need to try and kill that DWM (Desktop Window Manager Session Manager) process. You could usually just go into Windows and disable the service, that if you cannot do this then you can disable the DWM by:

1. Create.bat file to kill dwm process by opening a notepad file
2. Then type taskkill /F / IM dwm.exe
3. Save the file as filename.bat
4. Copy the saved file to C:/ProgramData/Microsoft/Windows/Start Menu/Programs/Startup
5. Then restart your computer

Hopefully that will solve your problem. If you have any further problems, make sure you remember what you have done and undo it.

Corrupted user profile

Sometimes you can see this error on your computer when your user profile has been corrupted. Another sign that your user profile is corrupted is that when you sign in to your account you can see a black screen. Either way here are a few steps to fix it.

1. The easiest way to fix this is to login to another user account on the computer. Maybe you have an admin account that you can log in to.

2. When you are logged in, create a new user with admin privileges.

3. Now login to your new account and go to the Start menu | Documents | Press ALT | View Tab | Show hidden files and folders.

4. Now locate C:UsersOld_Username folder and select all file except following:

· Ntuser.dat
· Ntuser.dat.log
· Ntuser.ini

5. Copy all of the other files and paste them into your new user folder.
